The hardest part about being a new author is maintaining your writing schedule. You’re still learning your grove, what works for you and what doesn’t. And what happens when life, well happens?
For the last week I have been dealing with the utmost stress of a totaled car. Anyone who has been in my shoes knows the hassle. You have to deal with the car insurance companies, car loan companies if you are still paying your car off (and I was), the car rental companies, and your day job (if like me, you have one).
Where in all those phone calls was I supposed to find the time and energy to write? Not only my book, but this weekly post? It just wasn’t going to happen. Something had to give. Life lifed. It held me hostage until things smoothed over.
Am I out of the woods yet? Not really. I’ve turned in the rental. I was lucky enough to put a down payment on a new car. The day job is still there. The insurance company is paying out the loan company. But I still have to deal with the loan company. There is one final thing to do.
However I feel out of the woods enough to be creative again. I feel more free to write and think on my book. Life maybe continuing on, but I’m here to join in with it. My little holds are ready to come undone and join in the fray that is my daily schedule again.
So what happens when life happens? Do we give up because it is all too much? Do we put it on hold until we can better handle the situation? Do we take a deep breathe and remind ourselves that we are merely small specks of human in the vast universe and as small specks we deserve breaks now and again? I know what I do. I’ve taken my breathe, and I’m ready to return to the fold that is writing.
Come join me when you’re ready.
