I just finished what I was told was a make it or break it class for my degree. Microbiology. Accelerated class, as the whole course is accelerated. The class itself was only 4 weeks long. I did find it difficult, but with most difficult things, I found keeping my nose to the grindstone and studying what I was learning kept my grades up. Which makes me wonder, why do they call these make it or break it classes?

I have three more make it or break it classes. Basically, if I don’t get it, I don’t get to my degree. Which I find insulting with how hard I am working for it. How are you going to tell me I am not good enough based on how well you teach? I guess this is getting even more under my skin as I am heading into the clinical rotation portion of my schooling. Still with classes in tow.

I won’t lie and say that this has been an easy eight months. I have struggled quite a bit. My next struggle comes in the form of part-time work and full-time school. All while every class I go into is being labeled as THE make it or break it class.

When I asked an instructor why Microbiology was make it or break it, I was informed this is where a lot of grades tank. We lose half the class population with the final because no one gets the material. That had me worried, but made sense.

When I asked the next instructor why it is a make it or break it class, I was informed that this is where you see how to do the job and a lot of people underestimate it, so they leave. That boggles my mind. You’ve spent so much money and time to become something big and you’re going to leave because there is work involved? That makes no sense.

That, however, is rant for another day. For now, make it or break it classes are annoying enough in their own space. Though they are needed to get you academically to where you need to be, they are annoyingly labeled. Just an annoyance on top of annoyance.
